Cheap Computers
Recently we bought over another cyber cafe with another friend. Still can't afford to buy it with our own saving. The cyber cafe comes iwth only 10 computers. Praise God recently we see the need of having more computers because at certain hours 10 computers is not enough. We are in the look out for used computers. Must be cheap, good working condition and the specs cannot be so outdated lar. :)

Monitors Need To Be Changed
Our Cyber Cafe business is coming to 4 years. More and more monitors are giving up on us. We have changed a few to LCDD monitor and soon we need to change all to LCD monitor because new CRT monitor is no longer being sold in the market. We are hoping to find a good bargain at Cyber Monday. If not, we will just buy a used CRT Monitor for the time being because when it comes to LCD monitor, we must buy new ones. Used will surely have problem.

Internet Cafe with 25 Computers
Praise God for His blessings. Our internet cafe has 25 computers now. It started with only 16 desktop computers 3 years ago. With the extra income that we get, we add bit by bit and the latest, we bought 4 desktop computers using my credit card coz we can get interest free installment for a year. I hope the sales will continue to pick up and we can pay up the loan in less than a year.

4 More Computers
We have just added another four units of computers to the cyber café. Due to the rising demands of the services, hubby decided that it would be best to buy additional four units. No, we do not buy all of it by cash. We used credit card that provides interests free 12 months installment payment. One good tips I learnt from hubby about buying computers is that you must do your research about the product. Search online in places like Shopwiki and learn all you can about the product and you will have a better picture of what you will be buying. Search for different types of ergocomic keyboard that is good for your fingers and health. Or search for printers that best fits your expected usage. Don’t just buy the “all in one” printer if you do not intend to use the scanning and faxing features.
Another tips is to buy according to your needs and not according to what the salesperson ask you to buy. The computer supplier cannot provide CRT monitors for the four units of computers as they only provide LCD monitors. So we just bought the units without the monitors and then search for the CRT monitors in other shops. We do not want to use LCD monitors as the cyber-café customers especially the young ones tend to touch the screen and CRT monitors are not easily damaged and easier to clean than LCD monitors.

The Reason We Have No Profit
After almost 3 years running the internet cafe, the computers started giving problem one after another. We changed some of the monitors, reformatted a few computer, and even buy some new ones to replace the ones that cannot be saved anymore.
Due to this, we never have an actual profit from the business until today. Either the amount is just enough to pay hubby's salary or it goes to repairs and replacement. Must get hubby to find whether we have wholesale computers shop in town. Must save as much as possible.

Gmail Loading Is Super Slow
I think, it is not my laptop memory problem and to buy memory is not going to solve the Gmail loading problem because it does not happen only on my laptop but the same goes to my office computers and the computers at hubby's internet cafe.
I wonder what is happening with Gmail now. Are they doing some upgrading now? Are you experiencing the same?

Free Online Games
Hubby just added 2 more computers to the Internet Café and I heard that quite a number of his customer prefers the new computers, not only because that it is new but it has more new games.
Well, hubby could actually download more games for the other computers and delete the unpopular ones. If not guide his customer to website that offers free online games like ChocoSnow.com.
If you are online/computer games freak, you got to check out this site. They have downloadable games for almost all the category like Puzzle, Arkanoid, Arcade, Pacman/Digger, Strategy/Sim, Shooter, Driving/Flying, Sports, Words game, Mahjong, Cards/Board and Free Online Games too.
If you want the full version of each games then you got to pay for it but you will be given free download to play for an hour before deciding whether to buy the games or not.
If you do not have much cash to spare then there are always the free online games for you to play. There are more than 100 games for you to choose.
With the free online games, I am sure hubby’s customers will never get bored with playing the same game over and over again.
I think I will check out the games that are suitable for my 5yo. ;)

Downloading Heroes
I thought my laptop got virus attack. Since last night loading is super slow. It take more than 10 minute for a website to load and some can't even load! The same happened this morning. Since I have auto virus scan, I tried defragmenting my drive. Still the same.
This afternoon, the same too so I thought it must be the Streamyx line. To confirm, I switch on hubby's pc which is already switched on. So I ended up shutting down the computer.
Then the pages on my laptop started to load as usual. FAST. It didn't come across to me that it has something to do with hubby's pc until this evening when I complaint to him about it.
He told me that he is downloading heroes. No wonder slow. So now, the downloading is put on hold till I am asleep. :)

Never Loose Your Files Again
A few years back, I remember that I stayed back in the office to update the inventory system because all the data in the backup went missing. Because of the urgency of it, I even brought the CPU home.
If you do not want the same to happen to you, I would suggest Tilana for Continuous Data Protection (CDP). New and modified files are protected automatically as you save. And if you are working on different computers where remote file access is required, this is a software for you too. It will also help keep your file sync. Any file protected in the remote data center is available to sync between your computers.

Computer Spy
Have your children started using the computer and internet? Mine have but I am restricting their usage because most of the time I am not around when they are at the computer. Do not know what they learn or click or even type there. The internet is not a safe place especially for teenager with raging hormones.
I just found out a way to track what others did on your computer when you are not looking. Have you heard of Family Keylogger?
I read that it the program will let you monitor what others type on your computer when you are not around. The Family Keylogger will record every words type and save it to a text file. They user don’t even realized that they are being spied. It will also track the launch of applications, sent emails, visited websites, and save information typed in the forms.
I sure hope my boss don’t know about this program. If not no more blogging or chatting with my fellow blogger mommies in the office. But then, this program is excellence if your computer always hangs and whatever you have typed did their disappearing act. With Family Keylogger installed, you'll be able to regain the text you have typed up to the moment when your computer hangs. :)

Security Software
The Operation Manager has been gone for 2 months already. Praise God that no problem with the computers and internet. I don’t know much about anti-virus or anti-spywares. I only know how to use the anti-virus for everyday scanning. Other than that, I seek help from my husband.
So, I’ll be leaving this company and no one else in this company knows much about computers or security softwares. I think it is high time that the boss take out some money from their pocket and invest in a good security software like NOD32 which has Anti Virus, Anti Spyware, Exploits, and Firewalls.

IT Services
When I first join the company, this company does not even have their own website and they are dealing with MNC. What a shame. They wanted to save money in every area that they could and waited for government grants. True enough, the government offered a grant for SMEs to develop their own website.
We did not even have to approach any IT consulting company. One of the contractors for this grant approached us and offered to set it all up. As usual he marked up the price so that he can earn more! That is where the tax payers hard earned money gone to. To these blood sucking leeches. Ei…leech do sucks blood! :P
We taught he was a professional but sad to say that the website that was developed is not up to my expectation based on the amount of money spent. It was just a plain website.
If your company really wants professional touch in your IT needs, get a well known It consulting firm. It will be worth the money spent. Just take a look at Boston IT Services. It offers comprehensive IT outsourcing solutions like Network integration, Business application development, Network monitoring, IT support and Preventive care. No need headache.

Laptop Rental
We have a unit of LCD projector which we hardly use and hubby put it up for rental. A few people have rented it before. Side income for us. Now we are thinking whether to offer laptop rental service since in presentation, LCD projector and laptop comes hand in hand. So far none ask for it yet. If there is, we might consider. Anything that brings more income to the business, we will go for it.

LCD Monitor

Finally I got the above baby yesterday! 19" Acer LCD Monitor for RM610.00. I wanted it since the day I brought back my laptop. After realizing that LCD screen is so soothing to my eyes, I wanted to get rid of my 19" CRT Monitor. But then the CRT is still working, no reason to chance.
I think the CRT know that I don't love him and decided to commit suicide yesterday. hehe. Well, he is in coma but not dead yet. I still find a replacement coz he gave up on me what. :P

LCD TV
I was telling Chooi Peng that I can't find the filter for myy 19" CRT monitor and I realised that LCD monitor is more soothing to the eyes. You know what she told me? Buy LCD TV, 2 in 1 because it can serve as computer monitor and TV screen too. When I asked her about the cost, it is more than 2k! Wah, a 17" LCD monitor is only Rm650! Furthermore, I seldom watch TV. :P

3 in 1 Security Software
I got a shock last Thursday when I received error message on my computer. I can't remember what was it. It was some kind of warning that I needed to contact my IT personnel to reformat my computer. I was like, "Die Lor, sure virus." But after I re-boot, everything is fine. I wonder what is happening in the background. Would it happen again?
I informed my OM about it because he does the maintenance of the computers in the office. He recommended me to install not only anti-virus software but also anti-spyware and firewall too. He told me to look for the NOD32 security software which includes these antivirus, anti-spyware and firewall programs together in one suite.
I wonder whether boss willing to invest.

Securing my laptop
I have bought a brand new laptop and I am very happy with it. It would be for my personal usage and not to be shared with other people. Reason being that I would put in a lot of my personal data, photos and journal thoughts in that laptop. In the past, most of my personal stuffs are stored in a few computers that are also accessible by others. My office computer is not exclusively used by me as my colleagues can also use it for their work. That is why I opted to buy a laptop for my own usage only.
One thing that I am quite worried about storing all my personal stuffs in the laptop is regarding security. It is estimated that no less than 1 in 10 laptops will be stolen during its lifetimes. I know that some of the programs do have internal password security features but not for my photos and journals. I was told to look for Data Encryption Software as it is the most secured way to protect all the data in my laptop.
I found one data encryption software called Alertsec Xpress at http://www.alertsec.com. For a minimal fee every month all my data in my laptop would be fully secured. I can try it for free for a month and if I am happy with it I can subscribed to that service and have less worry about my data in the laptop if it is stolen. Check it out if you too are concerned about data security.

My First Laptop

Look! A laptop on my desk. :D
Finally I got an item in my "imaginary" wishlist. An Acer Aspire 4315 laptop for RM1799. I know some of you gonna say that Acer is not reliable. You know what? I don't care. :P It is cheap what, so can't put high expectation on it.
It will only be used for blogging and I don't have to rebut my desktop with hubby and my girls anymore.
Hmm..what's next in my wishlist. It will be a holiday trip oversea and a Naza Ria. If my PR keeps dropping, I don't think my wish will come true, unless the blog advertisers use other measure to rank our blogs. I shall wait and dream on. :)
