Computers for Blackshot
Praise God for His blessing, we are able to invest in 5 more used but with higher spec computers which Blackshot can be played on it. Since the boys know that my cc have Blackshot, more has been coming every day. And 5 computers aren't enough so we tried installing graphic card to 4 more computers and it works, Blackshot can be played on them. Now we have 9 computers with Blackshot. Even that, it is still not enough. Praying that God will continue to bless us and we will have the means to add more higher spec computers.

Is Your Hard Drive Really Clean
Today, I just found out that that 74% of discarded PC hard drives contain private data that can be easily read and recovered even if the drive has been reformatted?
I know there is some kind of software to retrieve deleted or re-formatted drives. Due to this, software developers have develop a software that will Wipe hard drive clean. It will permanently erase files, pictures, documents, credit card info, bank statements, passwords and more.

Free Notebook
A few months back, one of my relatives told us that we can get free notebook from the government if we have a school going children. He even helped us submit the application and told us "sure can get one." 2 months ago, he updated us that the notebook is available, just waiting for someone told sign the release form. Unfortunately, until today there is no sign of the notebook. I wonder whether the notebooks gone to. Lazy to ask already.

Acer Laptop for Sale
Finally I got my Acer Laptop fixed. It was away from me since March last year! I paid RM400 for the flap and the CD-Rom to be fixed. No more using books or my sewing machine to hold the "monitor". No more "hanging" without opening the CD-Rom.
Since I am so used not having my laptop around, I decided to sell it. Those interested, leave me your valid email address and I'll reply with the laptop specification and price.

Wireless Speakers
Last month we bought a few LCD monitor for our internet cafe. Each of them came with a free gift; wireless speakers. But then we decided not to take the free gift because is it not a good idea to have wireless speakers in an internet cafe because the chances of it going missing is very high. Just imagine that we lost a few card readers. Thank God we managed to persuade the seller to buy from us all the wireless speakers.

Best Buy LCD Monitor
We need an LCD Monitor badly because hubby and I spend a lot of time using the internet on the desktop. We are currently using a CRT which is not good for our eyesight. We used to have an LCD Monitor but it got strike by lightning sometime ago. Until today we still have not gotten a replacement because we are still waiting for Best Buy LCD Monitor. Cannot simply spend now since we have 5 children to feed! ;)

Free USB Drive
To date, we have quite a number of USD Drives. And the best part it, we got them all for free. Most of you know that my husband runs an internet cafe right? Those free USB drives are left behind by the customers and surprisingly, most of them did not come to claim it back. So they became ours. I think most if us can easily get free USB drive because many businesses like to give USB drive as tradeshow giveaways.

My Laptop Dropped!
Do you know that accidental damage and theft is not covered in the laptop warranty? I just found out today! Thank God nothing happened to my laptop when my 17mo baby pulled the charger wire and my laptop landed on the floor from the table top.
Do you know there is actually an insurance policy for those things that are not covered by the laptop warranty? Oh well, if you own a super expensive and store lots of important stuff in your laptop, I think you should insured your laptop. As for me, my laptop are just for me to go online to blog and FB. ;)

I want a netbook too
After reading some netbook reviews, my hands are itching to get one netbook for myself. Why do I need to own a mini netbook, you might ask since I have a laptop and a desktop at home. For obvious reason of course! With a mini laptop some might call it a netbook, I can bring it everywhere I go since I don't fancy buying any iPhone. Like today, we will be traveling up to Genting but I can't bring my laptop along coz it is bulky and my hands are full with our luggage, a stroller and 4 kids!

LCD Monitor Pops
It was raining cats and dogs last night with thunder and lightning. Our main power switch tripped. Seconds after hubby switch the power back on, I heard popping sounds at our desktop. There goes our modem again, I thought. When hubby switch on the modem and router, they are working fine. The speakers are fine too. Where does the bursting sound came from? Only this morning, I discovered it. The LCD Monitor!!! There goes our RM600 LCD monitor. I really hope that it can be fixed. :(

LCD Monitors
Some of the computer monitors at hubby's shop has been replaced with lcd monitor. One of the reasons we changed to lcd monitor is because the CRT monitors are hard to find now. And the price of a lcd monitor is less than RM100 difference from a CRT monitor.
But we have one problem. Customers likes to point and poke the computer monitor; be it CRT or LCD. In order to protect the LCD screen, we glued a piece of transparent plastic material onto the lcd monitor. They still poke but the lcd screen is safe from being torn.

Selling Flash Drive at Cyber Cafe
When I was work at hubby's Cyber Cafe, a few times I came across customers asking whether we sell flash drive. We do sell Floppy Disk, CD-R and DVD-R but not flash drive coz it is kind of costly. But then, not many of us use floppy disk anymore. New computers does not come with floppy disk drive too. I wonder where can we buy cheaper flash drive like the ones selling in Tesco. If can get cheap Custom flash drive even better. :D

Sony Vaio
My eldest daughter spends her time online very often now. Her latest favorite online game is the Pet Society in Facebook. Before this she was hooked playing Spineworld and Habbo to which I have to get hubby to block the website because I do not want my 6yo chatting with strangers. Only 6yo, I am already facing this problem! I shivers thinking what might happen in another 6 years if I don't teach them well. She even asked me to buy her a Sony Vaio. She wants to have her own laptop!

BeeZee
I hardly have time to update ALL my blogs now. With no helper around including hubby, my time is occupied to doing housework and mind my 4 children. With a clingy baby who wants to be carried the moment he wakes up limits my time to blog too. So, if you see me online, it could be me just switching on the pc and peep whenever possible or it could be my eldest daughter playing online game here.

How Much is TP-Link External ADSL 2 + Router
Last week, our TP-Link modem got struck by lightning. Unsure whether we can send it for repair because it is still under warranty, hubby bought a new modem, the same one; TP-Link External ADSL 2 + Router for RM70 a unit.
Later we discover that our Wireless Router is not working too!
However hubby was not able to set the TP-Link External ADSL 2 + Router to automatically dial-up to Streamyx and we sent it back to the computer shop to get their technician to help do the setting.
We brought along the lightning struck TP-Link Modem and also the Wireless Router and to our surprise, the Sales Manager suggested to send it for repair and claim the warranty. =D

Reason for No Internet Connection Given by Streamyx
ADSL Light is stable. No problem with the splitter. Still I can't connect to the internet. Called Streamyx, they told me to do all the necessary checking. I told them that it happened before and don't need to waste time but to just reset my account. After he did that, I got my connection back. He said that there was a "System Hang". The caused for "System Hang" is because I switched off the modem before shutting down the computer. Ok then, noted.
2 days later, the same happened. Called Streamyx and told them to reset it again. Reason given "System Hang." This time I am positively sure that I shut down my computers half an hour before I switched off the modem. Lazy to argue, I did not tell them that.
The next day, computers running and modem is switched on too. I took a nap, 2 hours later, no more connection. Called Streamyx. "System Hang" is the reason given but this time I told them that I did not switch off anything. They can't give me any answer to the "System Hang".
So I made up my mind that I will never switch off my modem again. I really wish that Streamyx has another competitor. If that, I might just pack my thing, hire a Moving Company and move to UK!

Partnership?
Due to the current economic downturn, many companies is minimizing their cost. One of their ways to cut cost is by retrenching their workers. One of hubby's friends is in the verge of being retrenched. Since he is in the IT department, he is planning to start an internet cafe himself with the money that he will get from being retrenched.
I heard he is very knowledgeable in data integration software but I do not know how will that apply in the internet cafe business. Anyway, he wants hubby to become his partner. Well, I am not too keen about it as profit from internet cafe isn't much to be divided between 3 partners. Yes! He has another partner too!

Lost Data
Every company that stores a lot of important data in their computers should have data protection solutions. I still remembered when I was still working in the previous company where we lost all the data in the inventory system due to virus attack. I remembered that I took my own initiative to bring home the CPU so that I can key in again all the important data before the ISO audit. Was I appreciated for that? Was there any "Thank You"? Was I paid for the extra work? Am I still working there? Then you would know the answer to those questions. =P

Surviving without IT
In this present time and time to come, no company can survive without IT. It is the fastest way to get job done and communicate; be it in business or education. We can't escape from spending money on IT if you want to make more money.
Let's take a look at a small scale IT scenario; emails. When I was working in my previous company, I am the one who read email and reply emails besides other administrative work. Even writing emails to the boss daughter's principal is being done by yours truly.
So, when I left, they hired a Chinese educated girl. The girl that replaced me is not so internet savvy and did not possess good English. They hired her because she has some experience in ISO. They are paying her 2k a month.
So, the boss hired another girl to do that part of my job (the emailing part) and she got paid 1.8k. In total, they are paying 3.8k for 2 administrative staff to do one person's job. They have not even engage the New York IT Consulting .
And I was only asking for 3k a month before I left! In the end, they lost a good employee and they have to spend more to replace that good employee. That is the cost of being stingy. =P
