Newspaper vs Magazine

A new rule is implemented recently. No reading of newspaper in the office but can read magazine or book. Weird right?

When you see someone reading magazine or book, it shows that he/she is really free. But reading newspaper is common in an office.

Recently I found out from the Oper. Manager that the boss doesn’t like anyone to be smarter than him. Preventing us from reading newspaper will make us less smart than him?

The Oper. Manager gave us the rational that a magazine or a book is smaller than newspaper. We can quickly hide it in our drawer if someone pop in the office and we can go back pretending to be busy at work.
